by Caitlin Varrin on June 30 2015

Instagram is one of the top social media platforms, a brand awareness tool that connects businesses - small and large - with customers on an emotional, human level, developing deeper connections.

Launched as an iPhone app on October 6, 2010, the mobile photo(and now video) sharing platform only took two months to reach one million registered users. Today, Instagram boasts over 200 million active users who make up this dedicated global community. Instagram has positioned itself as a powerful platform for businesses by creating a quality brand experience for customers. With recent additions to their advertising options, they are looking to empower people and businesses to do more.

Soon you will be able to make direct purchases from your favourite retailers through Instagram.

"Now, as we look to build on this momentum, we’re focused on three key areas: Expanding ad offerings to include action-oriented formats, enabling more targeting capabilities, and making it easier for businesses large and small to buy ads on Instagram." - Instagram For Business, Instagram Blog.
