The dos and don'ts of New Year's Eve
DON'T just talk politics at a party. Remember and rejoice in the good and fun times.
DO dance, dance, dance!
DON'T forget your sock game. It's the icing on an upside-down cake.
DO use glitter. Other than Halloween, New Year's Eve is probably the only other night of the year where you can use glitter without being judged.
DON'T have high expectations. You're setting yourself up for disappointment.
DO approach the evening with the lowest possible expectations.
DON'T lose things.
DO install a "Find My Phone" app just in case the "don't" above doesn't pan out.
DON'T wear your most expensive jacket. Chances are high that it'll get misplaced or disappear amid the New Year's Eve chaos.
DO know how you're getting home. The last thing you want is to be freezing in near Arctic conditions on a sidewalk without your jacket because it "didn't go with your outfit."
DON'T pass out before midnight.
DO drink plenty of water between cocktails. Fizzy water with garnish will raise minimal suspicions.
DON'T make it all about that New Year's kiss. The fact is, some years you might have a wonderful person to kiss at midnight and, other years, you might be an epic 21st wheel at someone's house party.
DO kiss someone if the opportunity presents itself because, why not?
DON'T make New Year's resolutions on New Year's Eve.
DO resolve to plan your meal after New Year's Eve. Something pre-made that you can heat up will save you from trying to make a meal hungover.
DON'T over-reflect on the past year. This isn't a time for tears and self-loathing.
DO look forward to the year ahead without delving into really real conversations about your future.
Some look at New Year's Eve as a clean break; a line in the sand; a time to reinvent yourself and make countless promises that you may or may not keep. You can "start over" on any boring Tuesday, but on New Year's Eve?
DO just have fun.
